It can be considered the first residential centre of Avola, built around the ancient tuna fishery. Today, the neighbourhood is the heart of a buzzing nightlife: if you are looking for a restaurant to spend your evening in, this is the place.
Marina di Avola
The seaside district of the city is one of the most popular destinations on the coast of Siracusa. Along the coast, white beaches alternate with rocky shores, all surrounded by a Caribbean-style sea. You just have to choose your corner of paradise and enjoy the smell of the sea.
Cavagrande di Cassibile
An unspoiled oasis where many types of plants easily bloom, some even exceedingly rare ones. The crystal-clear waters of the River Cassibile create basins you can dive into or have a refreshing swim in.
The Roman Villa
The remains of the Roman Villa are located on the waterfront of Avola, near a small stream. If you are an archaeology enthusiast, you absolutely mustn’t miss a visit to this villa, where remains of coins, jewellery and pottery from ancient times were found.
Midolo Olive Oil Mill
Once used for grape processing and olive milling thanks to its ‘trappittu’, a large lava stone mill that was moved by a donkey. Today it has been transformed into a must-see museum that gives you a good idea of the local culture.
